Samsung’s QLED TVs Officially Certified as True Quantum Dot Displays

Samsung has just secured a significant industry milestone: its latest QLED televisions have been officially certified as Real Quantum Dot Displays by TÜV Rheinland, the renowned German international certification body. This certification confirms that Samsung’s QLED models meet stringent international standards for quantum dot technology, further cementing the brand’s leadership position in the premium TV market.
The TÜV Rheinland certification verifies that Samsung’s QLED displays comply with the IEC 62595-1-6 standard — a key specification governing displays using quantum dots combined with blue light sources. This ensures the panels deliver the performance expected from true quantum dot technology, a feature increasingly demanded in high-end home entertainment systems.
Additionally, Samsung’s quantum dot solution received recognition from Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) for being cadmium-free. Cadmium, a toxic heavy metal, is harmful to both human health and the environment. By excluding it from its displays, Samsung not only advances image quality but also reinforces its commitment to sustainable, eco-conscious product development.
Vivid Colors, Verified
During the certification process, TÜV Rheinland conducted an in-depth analysis of the Samsung QLED TVs’ light spectrum performance. The tests confirmed that the televisions’ red, green, and blue colors are cleanly separated, delivering high levels of color accuracy and vibrancy — a key strength of quantum dot technology. This precise color rendering contrasts with alternative display methods where color blending and reduced image clarity can occur.
“This recognition clearly proves that Samsung’s QLED TVs meet international expectations and deliver a true quantum dot experience,” said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of Samsung’s Visual Display Business. “Our goal remains to set new benchmarks in display technology while reliably meeting the growing demands for premium televisions.”
Which Models Are Certified?
The certification covers multiple models in Samsung’s QLED lineup, including:
- Neo QLED 8K: QN990F, QN950F
- Neo QLED 4K: QN90F, QN85F, QN80F, QN70F
- QLED 4K: Q8F, Q7F, Q6F
Quantum dots, microscopic nanomaterials thousands of times thinner than a human hair, are engineered to emit highly specific, vibrant colors depending on the wavelength of light they interact with. This technology has become one of the defining benchmarks for premium TVs in recent years.
