A New Approach to Backlighting

Samsung has officially launched its Micro RGB display, marking a significant development in premium television technology. The 115-inch screen is the first to feature a micro-scale RGB LED backlight, with each red, green, and blue LED measuring less than 100 micrometers. These LEDs are arranged in a fine pattern behind the panel, allowing for precise control over individual color elements. This design differs from conventional backlighting systems, which typically rely on broader zones of illumination.

The Micro RGB architecture enables improved contrast and color accuracy, particularly in high-resolution content. Samsung’s proprietary technology aims to deliver more lifelike visuals by managing each LED independently. According to the company, this level of control sets a new benchmark for ultra-premium displays. The launch reflects Samsung’s continued investment in next-generation display formats.

AI Optimization and Certification

The display is powered by Samsung’s Micro RGB AI engine, which analyzes each frame in real time to optimize both picture and sound. This system enhances scenes with muted tones, adjusting color output for greater vibrancy without oversaturation. The AI engine also contributes to sound processing, tailoring audio to match visual content. These features are designed to improve immersion across various types of media.

Micro RGB Precision Color technology ensures the display meets the BT.2020 standard for color accuracy, as defined by the International Telecommunication Union. Certification from Germany’s Verband der Elektrotechnik (VDE) confirms the display’s performance in controlled color delivery. Samsung’s Glare Free technology further improves usability by reducing reflections in bright environments. Together, these elements support a more consistent and comfortable viewing experience.

Design, Security, and Global Rollout

Beyond performance, the Micro RGB display features a slim metal design intended to blend with modern interiors. Samsung Vision AI is integrated into the system, offering smart features such as voice control via Bixby and contextual search capabilities. The voice assistant is powered by generative AI, allowing for more natural interaction with the device. Samsung Knox provides built-in security to protect user data.

The display will debut in South Korea before launching in the United States, with a broader global rollout planned. Samsung intends to offer the technology in multiple sizes to accommodate different consumer needs. A seven-year Tizen OS upgrade program ensures long-term software support. Pricing for the initial 115-inch model is expected to be around $32,000, positioning it firmly in the luxury segment2.
