Optimizing LG TVs for Better Console-Free Gaming
- LG outlines key TV settings to enhance gaming visuals and reduce latency, especially for Xbox cloud play on OLED and QNED models.
Fine-Tuning for Responsive Gameplay
Gaming performance depends not only on the console but also on how the television is configured. Poor settings can lead to input lag, motion blur, and inaccurate color reproduction, all of which diminish the intended visual experience. LG recommends a few targeted adjustments to improve responsiveness and clarity across various game genres. With just a few minutes of setup, users can significantly enhance their gaming sessions.
Recent LG OLED and QNED models support Xbox cloud gaming without a console, requiring only a compatible controller. These TVs offer 4K resolution, 120Hz refresh rates, and HDR support, making high-quality gaming more accessible. While LG TVs include numerous image and audio enhancement features, not all are suitable for gameplay. Selecting the right combination of settings is essential for achieving optimal results.
Disabling AI Features for Lower Latency
AI-powered image enhancements such as AI Picture Pro can improve visual quality but introduce processing delays. These functions analyze textures, faces, objects, and text before rendering, which adds latency that may be imperceptible during video playback but problematic for gaming. AI Brightness adjusts screen brightness based on ambient light, which can be distracting during gameplay and is best disabled in favor of manual control. Turning off these features helps maintain a direct signal path and reduces input lag.
On the other hand, enabling HDMI Deep Color unlocks HDR capabilities, providing more vivid and accurate visuals. Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) automatically switches the TV to game mode when a console is detected, eliminating the need for manual adjustments. Technologies like VRR, G-Sync, and FreeSync ensure smoother motion and reduce stuttering, provided the console supports them. LG’s Game Dashboard allows quick access to key settings during gameplay without exiting the session.
Matching Settings to Game Genres
Different game types benefit from tailored display configurations. First-person shooters (FPS) require visibility in dark areas, which the Black Stabilizer function enhances by balancing black and white tones. Role-playing games (RPGs) emphasize rich visuals and detailed environments, where increased contrast can improve immersion. Real-time strategy (RTS) titles demand balanced brightness and contrast to ensure map clarity and unit visibility. Motion Pro sharpens fast-moving scenes, making it useful for racing and sports games but less relevant for slower-paced genres.
Regardless of genre, enabling Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) can reduce latency and improve responsiveness. For extended play sessions, activating blue light reduction may help minimize eye strain. LG’s Gaming Portal app further expands access by allowing users to play Xbox Game Pass titles directly on supported TVs. This feature removes the need for a physical console, streamlining the gaming setup.
As part of a joint promotion with MediaMarkt, LG is offering three months of free Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to the first 150 customers who register eligible AI TV purchases via email. The offer is valid both in-store and online across MediaMarkt locations in Hungary. Supported models include 2025 LG OLED TVs, with plans to expand compatibility later this year. Full details and model eligibility are available on LG’s official website.
