Amazon and Google Launch Multicloud Service

Google Cloud Amazon Web Services Aliance

Faster Connectivity Across Platforms

Amazon and Google have jointly introduced a new multicloud networking service designed to improve reliability and speed. The initiative allows customers to establish private, high-speed connections between the two companies’ platforms within minutes rather than weeks. Its launch comes shortly after a major Amazon Web Services outage on October 20 disrupted thousands of websites worldwide, including Snapchat and Reddit. Analysts estimate that the incident cost U.S. companies between $500 million and $650 million in losses.

Combining Cloud Technologies

The new service integrates AWS’ Interconnect–multicloud with Google Cloud’s Cross-Cloud Interconnect to enhance interoperability. Executives from both companies described the collaboration as a significant step forward in multicloud connectivity. Robert Kennedy, AWS vice president of network services, emphasized the importance of seamless links between providers. Rob Enns, Google Cloud’s vice president and general manager of cloud networking, noted that the system will simplify moving data and applications across platforms.

Industry Adoption and Market Context

Salesforce has already begun using the new approach, according to Google Cloud. AWS remains the world’s largest cloud provider, followed by Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. Tech firms are investing heavily in infrastructure to meet rising internet traffic demands, particularly with the growth of artificial intelligence services. Amazon’s cloud division reported $33 billion in revenue for the third quarter, more than double Google Cloud’s $15.16 billion.

Multicloud strategies have become increasingly important as businesses seek resilience against outages and flexibility in managing workloads. Analysts highlight that reliance on a single provider can expose companies to significant risks, as demonstrated by the October AWS disruption. Google and Amazon’s collaboration reflects a broader industry trend toward partnerships that improve interoperability. According to Gartner, by 2027 more than 70% of enterprises are expected to adopt multicloud networking solutions to balance performance, cost, and reliability.
