Global Survey and Key Findings

The Unisys Digital Workplace Insights Report 2025 surveyed 1,000 executives and IT decision-makers across the United States, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. Results indicate that organizations prioritizing employee-focused, AI-enabled workplace solutions are significantly more likely to surpass sales and revenue targets. A select group of more than 100 companies, identified as “productivity leaders,” already demonstrate measurable business gains from AI adoption. In contrast, late adopters struggle to keep pace with innovation and efficiency improvements.

These leaders report stronger outcomes in several areas. Innovation improved for 91% compared to 17% of lagging firms, while cybersecurity gains were noted by 98% versus 42%. Return on investment was achieved by 99% of leaders compared to 41% of others. Employee satisfaction and retention also exceeded expectations, with 91% of leaders outperforming against only 31% of laggards.

Leadership Divide and AI Perceptions

The study highlights differences between IT and business leaders in evaluating digital workplace tools. IT executives emphasize efficiency, return on investment, and productivity, while business leaders focus on employee performance and experience. Only 32% of business leaders believe workplace tools perform equally well for remote and office work, compared to 67% of IT leaders. Views on generative AI also diverge, with 72% of IT leaders considering it critical for reducing downtime, while just one-third of business leaders agree.

This divide may slow digital transformation if not addressed. Effective collaboration between IT and business leadership is essential to maximize AI’s potential. Patrycja Sobera, head of Unisys digital workplace solutions, noted that future industry leaders will not only deploy AI but align it with employee needs and business strategy. She emphasized that joint thinking and cooperation between executives is vital for long-term success.

AI Support and Human-Centered Advantage

Productivity leaders recognize that generative AI transforms how organizations handle technical issues. AI-driven workplace systems reduce downtime, prioritize urgent tickets, and restore employees to work more quickly. Continuous monitoring across time zones ensures uninterrupted operations, with 87% of leaders citing AI as critical during outages. Additionally, 92% believe AI simultaneously lowers IT workload and minimizes lost productivity.

Beyond generative AI, many firms are exploring agentic AI to strengthen support processes. However, the study stresses that human factors remain central to competitive advantage. Leading companies demonstrate a deeper understanding of employee expectations, with 96% accurately identifying user needs compared to 72% of lagging firms. They are six times more likely to use experience-level agreements (XLA) instead of traditional SLA metrics, and 93% regularly collect employee feedback on IT investments.

The concept of XLA, highlighted in the report, is gaining traction as organizations shift from measuring service availability to evaluating user experience. Analysts note that this approach reflects a broader industry trend toward human-centric IT management. By focusing on satisfaction and retention, companies can link technology investments directly to workforce outcomes. The Unisys findings suggest that combining AI with employee-focused strategies may define the next stage of digital workplace transformation worldwide.
