Refillable Ink Tanks Aim for Long-Term Value

Brother International has announced a refreshed inkjet printer lineup, including updates to its Work Smart and INKvestment series, along with the debut of refillable bottle tank models under the INKvestment Tank brand. These new devices are designed to meet the needs of home users, small businesses, and professionals seeking cost-effective and reliable printing. The INKvestment Tank models feature spill-free refill bottles and promise up to three years of uninterrupted printing, marking the highest yield capacity Brother has offered to date. Setup is streamlined via the Brother Mobile Connect app, and each model includes a three-year limited warranty.

Three new INKvestment Tank models target different use cases. The 580 ($299.99 MSRP) offers wireless connectivity and a 150-sheet tray, suitable for everyday tasks. The 780 ($379.99 MSRP) adds a 20-page automatic document feeder for increased productivity. For higher-volume needs, the 980 ($469.99 MSRP) includes an 80-sheet multipurpose tray and reaches print speeds of up to 17 pages per minute in black and white.

INKvestment Series Enhances Efficiency

Beyond the refillable tanks, Brother has also updated its INKvestment cartridge-based printers, which include more ink in-box to reduce replacements and maintain workflow continuity. These models support automatic duplex printing, fast output, and cloud connectivity, making them suitable for users who prioritize efficiency. Compact designs and flexible connection options allow for easy integration into home offices or small business setups. Mobile configuration is supported through the Brother Mobile Connect app.

The INKvestment 1365 ($159.99 MSRP) mirrors the Work Smart 1360 in core features but includes more ink for extended use. It supports duplex printing, a 20-page feeder, and a 1.8″ color display, with yields of up to 1,200 black and 500 color pages. The 4355 ($209.99 MSRP) increases tray capacity and offers up to 1,800 black and 750 color pages out-of-box. For demanding environments, the 4555 ($279.99 MSRP) includes a 2.7″ touchscreen, dual trays totaling 400 sheets, and both Ethernet and wireless connectivity.

Work Smart Line Targets Everyday Use

Brother’s Work Smart series continues to focus on simplicity and reliability for daily printing needs. These all-in-one devices offer print, copy, and scan functions in compact formats that suit home and small office environments. Wireless and USB connectivity, along with vibrant output using Brother Genuine Ink, help users stay productive with minimal hassle. Setup is quick through the Mobile Connect app, and ink usage can be tracked via the Page Gauge feature.

The Work Smart 1360 ($109.99 MSRP) includes duplex printing, a 20-page feeder, and a 1.8″ display for navigation. The 1410 ($139.99 MSRP) upgrades to a 2.7″ touchscreen and faster print speeds in a space-saving design. Both models are compatible with Brother’s Refresh EZ Print Subscription and Refresh Reordering services, which automate ink delivery based on usage patterns. These programs aim to reduce downtime and provide predictable printing costs.

Ink Refilling in Under 65 Seconds

Brother’s new refillable ink system not only prevents incorrect color insertion but also completes refills in just 65 seconds. The Genuine High Yield Ink Bottles offer up to 7,500 pages in black and 5,000 in color, with prices ranging from $11.59 to $19.99 depending on the color. This approach reflects a broader industry trend toward minimizing waste and maximizing convenience. As refillable systems become more common, Brother’s entry into this space signals a shift toward longer-term ownership and reduced operating costs.
