Gemini Assistant Launches on Google TV Devices

- Google introduces Gemini for TV, enabling conversational content discovery, learning support, and contextual assistance on the big screen.
Google has expanded its Gemini AI assistant to Google TV, offering users a more interactive way to engage with their television. Unlike traditional voice commands, Gemini supports natural conversations, helping viewers find content, answer questions, and explore topics in depth. The assistant builds on existing Google Assistant features but adds contextual understanding and follow-up capabilities. Users can activate Gemini by saying “Hey Google” or pressing the microphone button on their remote.
Smarter Entertainment Discovery
Gemini simplifies the process of choosing what to watch by tailoring suggestions to individual preferences and group dynamics. Viewers can describe their mood or interests, and the assistant will recommend suitable titles, even when the show’s name is forgotten. For example, asking about a new hospital drama may yield suggestions like “The Pitt,” along with reviews and related details. The assistant also helps users catch up on previous seasons or explore trending content without navigating menus manually.
Beyond entertainment, Gemini supports educational and practical queries directly on the TV screen. Parents can use it to explain school topics to children, such as volcanoes, and follow up with hands-on project ideas. It also assists with skill development, offering guidance on learning guitar or preparing quick recipes for social events. YouTube integration allows users to access visual tutorials and deepen their understanding without switching devices.
Device Availability and Future Expansion
Gemini is now available on TCL’s QM9K series and will roll out to additional models later this year. Supported devices include the Google TV Streamer, Walmart onn. 4K Pro, and select 2025 Hisense and TCL models. Google plans to expand Gemini’s capabilities further, enhancing how users interact with over 300 million active Google TV and Android TV OS devices. This marks a step toward more conversational and personalized smart home experiences.
