First Look at the Sequel

Independent developer and publisher CI Games presented the debut gameplay of Lords of the Fallen II during The Game Awards. Built on Unreal Engine 5, the sequel is scheduled for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store. The trailer, set to Ghost’s cover of “It’s a Sin,” highlighted fast-paced combat against massive enemies across dual realms. Players take on the role of the Lampbearer, wielding new dismemberment and execution mechanics in both solo and cooperative play.

Three bosses were revealed in the footage: the Heartroot Warden with his chain-wrapped greatsword, the winged Koydreth attacking from a rune-etched mirror, and Lingao the Souring Storm, a colossal dragon harnessing wind and lightning. Game Director James Lowe emphasized the studio’s “players-first philosophy” and promised greater enemy variety and more spectacular boss encounters. The sequel continues the story set 1,000 years after the fall of the dark god Adyr. A lone kingdom now faces the forces of Umbral and its eldritch master.

Lords of the Fallen (2023) Version 2.5

To keep fans engaged ahead of the sequel, CI Games released Version 2.5, the final major update for Lords of the Fallen (2023). The patch introduces extensive reworks to enemy and boss behavior across both Legacy and the new Veteran Mode. Bosses now feature faster, more aggressive attack patterns, while mini-bosses and standard enemies employ smarter positioning and cooldown logic. Veteran Mode further empowers bosses with new transitions and attack variations, rewarding successful players with the Veteran of the Veil breastplate.

Boss weapons have also been reforged with new signature animations. Version 2.5 represents the culmination of over 70 updates shaped by feedback from more than six million players. CEO Marek Tyminski noted that the update reflects the studio’s ongoing engagement with its community. The patch is free for all owners and marks the final major refinement of the 2023 release.

Community and Future Plans

CI Games confirmed that more details about Lords of the Fallen II will be shared in 2026 ahead of its global launch. In the meantime, new players can purchase Lords of the Fallen (2023) at a limited-time 50% discount across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The company continues to encourage fans to follow updates through official channels, including YouTube, Discord, and social media platforms.

The Lords of the Fallen series is part of a growing wave of soulslike titles that emphasize punishing combat and intricate world-building. Since the success of Dark Souls and Elden Ring, the genre has expanded significantly, with studios worldwide experimenting with mechanics such as dismemberment and cooperative progression. CI Games’ decision to integrate these features into Lords of the Fallen II reflects broader industry trends toward innovation within the genre, aiming to balance challenge with accessibility for both solo and multiplayer audiences.
