  • Its flagship model introduces an active cooling fan, a rare feature in mainstream smartphones.
  • The lineup targets young gamers with hardware tuned for speed, stability, and long sessions.

A Gaming-Focused Lineup Debuts at MWC

Nubia introduced the Neo 5 smartphone series at MWC Barcelona 2026, presenting a lineup designed specifically for mobile gaming. The flagship Neo 5 GT stands out with an integrated active cooling fan, a feature typically reserved for niche gaming devices. Its flat rear panel and streamlined design aim to balance performance with everyday usability. The series also includes the more affordable Neo 5 and the large-screen Neo 5 Max, which features a 7.5‑inch display.

The company positions the devices for young gamers and Gen Z users who prioritize performance and customization. Each model incorporates gaming‑oriented features such as rapid trigger buttons, extended battery life, and an AI‑powered Game Space interface. Nubia also includes its Demi 2.0 AI assistant, which supports in‑game interactions and system management. The global rollout begins in March 2026 in Southeast Asia, followed by additional international markets.

Active Cooling and High-Speed Controls

One of the Neo 5 GT’s most notable features is its active cooling system, which combines a built‑in fan with a 29,508 mm² thermal dissipation area. This approach differs from most smartphones, which rely solely on passive cooling and often throttle performance during extended gaming sessions. Fresh air is directed through a Through‑Flow Duct system that channels airflow over the processor and battery. The device is built on the Cold‑Core Trinity architecture, pairing a 4 nm MediaTek D7400 chipset with LPDDR memory capable of up to 6400 Mbps speeds and the NeoTurbo Engine optimization suite.

Gaming responsiveness is further enhanced by 550 Hz Neo Triggers 5.0 shoulder buttons. These controls support four‑finger gameplay and operate with latency below 5.5 ms, offering precision for competitive titles. A 6.8‑inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution and a 144 Hz refresh rate delivers smooth visuals during fast‑paced action. Visibility in bright environments is supported by a peak brightness of 4500 nits.

Battery, Design, and AI Gaming Tools

The Neo 5 GT includes a 6210 mAh dual‑cell battery that supports up to 80 W fast charging, though European models are limited to 45 W PD charging. A Bypass Charging mode allows the device to draw power directly from the charger during gameplay, reducing heat and minimizing battery wear. An Extreme Mode can extend usability even at low charge levels, offering up to 23 minutes of gameplay or nearly 29 hours of standby time at 5% battery. These features aim to maintain performance stability during long gaming sessions.

Nubia designed the Neo 5 GT with a completely flat back panel, complemented by DTS Ultra stereo speakers and an X‑Axis linear motor for haptic feedback. Additional visual elements include Eagle Eye lighting and RGB illumination integrated with the cooling fan. The AI Game Space 5.0 interface centralizes performance settings and gaming tools in a single dashboard. Its Demi 2.0 assistant provides real‑time statistics for FPS and MOBA titles, automated chat responses, and quick answers to gameplay questions.

Camera Features and Global Availability

Beyond gaming, the Neo 5 series includes features intended for everyday use. Each model offers a 50 MP AI‑enhanced triple rear camera system and a 16 MP front camera for selfies and video calls. Several AI utilities are included, such as memory management tools, scam detection alerts, and AI‑based image and text generation. These additions aim to broaden the devices’ appeal beyond gaming‑centric users.

The global launch begins after MWC Barcelona 2026, with initial availability in Southeast Asia. The Neo 5 GT starts at €399, while the standard Neo 5 begins at €299, and both models come in three color options. Wider international availability will follow later in the year, though details for specific regions, including Hungary, will be announced at a later date. Nubia expects the series to compete in the growing mid‑range gaming phone segment.

Active cooling in smartphones remains uncommon, but interest has grown as mobile games become more demanding. Several gaming‑focused brands have experimented with fans or external cooling attachments, yet few mainstream manufacturers integrate them directly into the device. Nubia previously explored similar concepts in its RedMagic gaming line, which helped establish the company as an early adopter of active cooling in mobile hardware. The Neo 5 GT continues this trend by bringing fan‑based cooling to a broader audience at a lower price point.
