Redefining Foldable Design

HONOR has officially launched its newest foldable smartphone, the Magic V5. The device is being marketed as the brand’s most advanced foldable to date, setting new benchmarks in design, functionality, and AI innovation. At a mere 8.8mm thickness in its ivory white version, it is currently the world’s thinnest and lightest inward-folding phone. The sleek design is complemented by high-performance components, including an advanced camera system and a robust battery.

This slim form factor is a result of advanced engineering, balancing portability with high-end technology. It weighs just 217 grams, a significant achievement for a foldable device. The phone’s silicon-carbon battery, containing 15% more silicon, provides a substantial 5,820 mAh capacity, ensuring long-lasting usage without compromising the thin design. Its durable construction is further enhanced by an IP58 and IP59 dust and water resistance rating, along with a protective NanoCrystal glass and a carbon fiber reinforced display panel.

The Magic V5 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platform, which is optimized for AI-driven performance. The new MagicOS 9.0 operating system, complete with an integrated Google Gemini AI assistant, offers a suite of productivity-enhancing features. Users can activate the assistant with a simple “Tap Tap” gesture on the phone’s back, making it a truly intelligent companion for daily tasks.

AI-Enhanced Imaging and Productivity

The HONOR AI Falcon camera system is a key feature for photography enthusiasts, offering a versatile triple-camera setup. It includes a 64 MP periscope telephoto lens, a 50 MP main camera, and a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The AI-powered HONOR Image Engine provides several innovative functions, such as AI Portrait, AI Super Zoom, and motion-sensing capture, designed to capture every moment with perfect detail.

Productivity is a major focus for the Magic V5, especially with its multi-display functionality. Both the 7.95-inch inner and 6.43-inch outer screens support stylus input, making them ideal for tasks like note-taking and sketching. The upgraded Multi-Flex mode allows users to run up to three applications simultaneously, simplifying multitasking for tasks such as document management, video calls, and web Browse.

The device also comes with a range of AI-driven tools aimed at boosting efficiency. The HONOR Notes app offers automatic summarization, note reorganization, and grammar checks. Additionally, the Recorder application provides real-time transcription and translation, further streamlining workflows for professional and academic use.

Seamless Ecosystem and Creative Tools

The Magic V5 enhances creative content creation with advanced AI capabilities. Utilizing Google Veo AI, the device can generate a realistic video from a single photo in under a minute. It also includes powerful photo-editing tools like AI Cutout, AI Eraser, and AI Extension, which allow for quick and precise adjustments to images. These features make it easier for users to edit and create high-quality content on the go.

The device also supports more intelligent communication with its real-time AI call translation, which is available in 16 languages, including Hungarian. Security is a priority, and the phone incorporates advanced privacy technologies to protect user data. The HONOR Share function ensures seamless file transfers across various operating systems, including Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows. This feature simplifies cross-platform workflows, making it easy to share files between devices.

The HONOR Magic V5 also offers a comprehensive device migration tool for iPhone users, allowing them to transfer contacts, calendars, photos, notes, and reminders effortlessly. It also supports file formats like CAD and EPUB, making it a versatile tool for professionals.

Interesting Fact

The term “foldable phone” has become a new category in the smartphone market, but its origins trace back to concept phones shown by companies like Nokia and Kyocera in the early 2000s. Early prototypes featured rudimentary folding screens or dual-screen designs, but these were largely theoretical. The first commercially available foldable smartphone was the Royole FlexPai in 2018, beating major players to the market.
