Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond are leaving their leadership positions at Xbox, according to reporting from IGN. Spencer will be succeeded by Asha Sharma (pictured), who joined Microsoft in 2024 as President of CoreAI and will now lead Microsoft Gaming. Bond, long viewed as Spencer’s likely successor, has reportedly resigned from her role as Xbox president. Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, will move into the newly elevated position of chief content officer and work alongside Sharma.

In an email to staff, Spencer said he began discussing his departure with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella last fall. He emphasized the importance of a deliberate transition that preserves stability for the Xbox organization. Spencer described Xbox as a community built around players, creators and teams, and said the platform deserves careful long‑term planning. He will remain in an advisory role through the summer to support the handover.
